David Carruth was introduced to the world of transportation at an early age and worked his way to success from the ground up. His uncle was CEO of the North American TNT transportation network which fostered many careers, including David’s.
It was at TNT where David met long time mentor and friend John Schiller. After a decade with TNT, David followed Mr. Schiller to Sameday Right-O-Way, before starting up his own business in 1992. This is where David’s entrepreneurial spirit took hold and his business, which specialized in the home delivery market, grew exponentially. David sold his company to Grocery Gateway in 2001 and after 3 years with GGI, purchased Ontario New England Express (ONE) in 2005.
At that time, ONE was a successful regional carrier and one of the founders’ sons, Jarrod, stayed on with David as a shareholder in the firm. David’s brother Mark also came on as a shareholder in 2005 and their combined strengths and history in the business made for a very smooth transition.
Over the next decade, David and his partners quadrupled the size of the company through acquisitions, innovation and organic growth. Since the purchase of ONE, David has added 2 additional partners, introduced new services and has established new directions for the once single minded carrier.
David is the Vice Chair and on the Board of Directors for ‘The Mark Preece House’ charitable group in Hamilton. He is naturally passionate about helping people become the best they can be in business and in life. David is an avid golfer, and cherishes his family life with wife Annette and daughter Stephanie.
Like his brother David, Mark Carruth got his start in the transportation game at an early age. His career commenced with operational positions at TNT Overland Express. In 1989, Mark moved to Yellow Freight System where he transitioned from operations into a sales role and relocated to Atlantic Canada.
During his time with Yellow, Mark opened and operated 2 terminals for Yellow and was responsible for terminal operations and sales activity. In 2001, he further advanced his expertise in third party freight management and came on board as a partner with David to head up the logistics growth for ONE For Freight in 2005.
Mark resides in Cambridge with his wife Kathryn and son Mathew. He likes to stay involved with the community and do his part to help through local YMCA initiatives. Mark is an avid long distance runner and has successfully competed in the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC on 5 occasions….and counting.
Rick Marshall joined ONE For Freight in the spring of 2013 as a partner and VP of Business Development. Rick had a passion for intermodal transport that married up with CEO, David Carruth’s mission to build a different kind of transportation company.
Rick possesses a wealth of knowledge and experience in over the road trucking and both Canadian & US Class 1 intermodal systems. Finding more efficient ways of connecting the USA and Canada with intermodal services is Rick’s main focus. The new methodology, which uses a 3 hub system through Chicago, Memphis and Vaughan, allows for more flexibility and capacity in scheduling.
Like all the managing partners at ONE, innovation and experience have taken the company in exciting new directions. Rick’s dream of laying new track for cross border intermodal services came to fruition at ONE For Freight quickly and Rick plans to build on that success for the future.
Rick is the happy father of three and resides with his wife Kim in Dundas Ontario.
